Getting Started - Where Will You Meet?
There are many places where your book club can meet.
- Many book clubs take turns meeting in the members' homes.
- If you meet in your workplace you could meet over your lunch hour utilizing space there so you don’t have to use your time traveling to another location. Or you could even meet after work before everyone goes home for the evening.
I once met with a group from a law firm over their lunch hour who intended to do this very thing.
- You can have your meetings in space at your church.
- Coffee shops are a fun place to meet. Management will sometimes let you use a corner of the room on their non-busiest nights as long as you order coffee and goodies while there. They will let you post flyers asking for interested members to contact you for information.
- Recently I read about a group planning to meet in a Gen X bar and grille over dinner and drinks. Of course, you will want to talk to management and find out which night(s) they are not as busy and would work best for them to save tables for your group!
- Another great place to meet is in an Internet cafe. All the members can participate in an online book discussion with your computers up and running!
- Try lots of different venues for your meetings according to the theme of your book: Knitting store, bowling alley, shopping mall, movie theater and more. You can even meet at a restaurant whose menu matches the theme of your book. Your group might have a great time!
